Friday Diversions: Bela Fleck and the African Banjos

April 24, 2009

It’s Friday morning and there’s been a lot of talk about torture memos, bombings in Baghdad and the continued collapse of the world economy. So, today, while not ignoring the important stories, I’m going to try and post whatever interesting, compelling, fun and weird stuff I come across in my daily travels. Call it “Friday Diversions”.

Here’s one: a beautiful slide show narrated by world-class banjo player, Bela Fleck, as he tours west Africa, meeting and playing with locals who show Fleck instruments which may have been the precursors to the one he is so famous for playing.
