9 Billion People on the Earth by 2040: World Population Discussion…

April 22, 2009

on the Diane Rehm show with the noted author and Professor Paul Erlich, William Butz, president and CEO, Population Reference Bureau and Hania Zlotnik, director, Population Division, United Nations. An interesting discussion on the explosion of population around the world and the varied methods of controlling growth. Some of the discussion is a little esoteric (births per women, replacement rate, migration rates) but there are a lot of thoughtful ideas presented. Because the issue of population is inextricably linked to the economy, the environment, health, crime and society in general, this talk is worth a listen (or, after the show is broadcast, a read in the archives).
