Ship Captain Captured by Somali Pirates Attempts an Escape

April 10, 2009

From the BBC News:

The US captain taken hostage by Somali pirates managed to jump off their lifeboat overnight but was recaptured, according to US media reports.

The escape attempt by Capt Richard Phillips was witnessed by a US navy ship nearby but happened too fast for it to come to his aid, NBC News says.

Fingers are crossed that Captain Phillips makes it out of this harrowing experience with his health intact. His bravery thus far–trading himself for the captured members of his crew and risking his health in an escape attempt–makes me think that, besides the US Military planning ways to rescue him, there are major news outlets planning ways to get the first interview with him once he is safely back on land.

Russell Crowe can play the ship captian, he’s the new Harrison Ford.
